Solar Water Heater
Caution:Non-pressure Solar water heaters
1, It is strictly prohibited to pour cold water suddenly into the dry vacuum tubes exposed in the sun to avoid blowout of the evacuated collector tubes. Please use sunshade or input water into the tubes in case of installation under the burning sun.
2, Installation of water heater must be undertaken by qualified professionals.
3, The place where water heater is installed should be even, there is no blocking object to influence heat collection.
4, The foundation of water heater must be able to bear twice weight of water volume.
5, Installation of water heater must be firm and stable to avoid damage and accident.
6, During installation, give full thermal insulation to upward and downward water pipes to avoid freezing in winter.

1. What is solar insolation?
The amount of electromagnetic energy (solar radiation) incident on the surface of the earth. Basically that means how much sunlight is shining down on us.

2. Why is knowing the insolation level useful?
By knowing the insolation levels of a particular region we can determine the size of solar collector that is required. An area with poor insolation levels will need a larger collector than an area with high insolation levels. Once you know your region's insolation level you can more accurately calculate collector size and energy output.

3. What units are used to express Insolation levels?
The values are generally expressed in kWh/m2/day. This is the amount of solar energy that strikes a square metre of the earth's surface in a single day. Of course this value is averaged to account for differences in the days' length. There are several units that are used throughout the world.

4. The conversions based on surface area as follows:
1 kWh/m2/day = 317.1 btu/ft2/day = 3.6MJ/m2/day
The raw energy conversions are:
1kWh = 3412 Btu = 3.6MJ = 859.8kcal

5. Is my region's insolation level low, moderate or high?
The following scale is a basic guide for insolation levels. Although a value of 5 is not considered very high during the summer months, as an average annual value this is very high. You will see that in central Australia, which is a hot, sunny place, the annual average insolation is 5.89.
You may compare you location to the following two extreme locations.
Average annual insolation levels:
Central Australia = 5.89 kWh/m2/day - Very High
Helsinki, Finland = 2.41 kWh/m2/day - Very Low.
How Does an Evacuated Heat Pipe Solar Collector Works?

Evacuated Heat Pipe Solar Collectors (tubes) operate differently than the other collectors available on the market. These solar collectors consist of a heat pipe inside a vacuum sealed tube, as shown

1. Each tube contains a sealed cooper pipe (heat pipe).

2. The pipe is then attached to a black copper fin that fills the tube (absorber plate).

3. Protruding from the top of each tube is a metal tip attached to the sealed pipe (condenser).

4. These tubes are mounted, the metal tips up, into a heat exchanger (manifold).

5. As the sun shines on the black surface of the fin, the liquid inside the heat pipe is heated.

* Hot vapor rises to the top of the pipe.

Water, or glycol, flows through the manifold and picks up the heat from the tubes.

The heated liquid circulates through another heat exchanger and gives off its heat to water that is stored in a solar storage tank.

The system is simple to install and easy to expand.

An 'F' reading on controller LCD display
  • Loose connections on sensor leads
  • Faulty sensor
  • Collector sensor at maximum
  • Check sensor wires for connection
  • Replace sensor
  • No action required
Pump will not run
  • Power wiring faulty
  • Pump rotor damaged
  • The pump control selector P is in manual 'OFF' position
  • TC incorrectly set
  • TC and DT not satisfied
  • Check wiring and fuses
  • See pump manufacturers instructions
  • Check controller unit and return pump control P to automatic mode 'AUT'
  • Reset to 25°C
  • No action required
Pump runs continuously
  • Collector temperature is below TF temperature
  • Loose connection or faulty sensor on the collector
  • Collector temperature at maximum
  • No action required TF flashes
  • Check connections and sensor wires
  • No action required
No circulation in system
  • Pump isolating valves closed
  • Automatic air-vent closed
  • Air lock at pressure relief valve
  • Air lock in the system
  • Non-return valve jammed
  • Pump is not running
  • System in stagnation
  • Open valves
